The 20th SPHERIC World Conference, originally scheduled for June 8–11, 2026 in San Francisco, USA, will now take place on February 1–4, 2027 in Rome, Italy.
This change aims to maintain broad participation from SPHERIC members and SPH practitioners worldwide, and to ensure a vibrant and scientifically stimulating event focused on the latest advances in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics and related methods.
The conference will be co-organized by the Italian Institute of Marine Engineering (CNR-INM), FIFTY2 Technology, and Sapienza University of Rome. The main venue of the event will be the historic Engineering Faculty of San Pietro in Vincoli, located in the heart of Rome and providing an inspiring setting for scientific exchange and international collaboration.
The SPHERIC World Conference is a regular assembly of experts engaged in the study and application of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation technique. This unique event serves as a platform for participants to share ideas, discuss their advancements in fundamental research and development, and explore real-world applications of SPH. It stands out as the sole global forum exclusively devoted to SPH and related particle-based methodologies.
SPH has gained extensive recognition across multiple domains, including computational fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, geomechanics, and manufacturing engineering. Renowned for its meshless, particle-based framework, SPH is at the forefront of state-of-the-art simulations involving free-surface flows, multiphase flows, highly nonlinear deformations, fractures, fragmentation, and other complex physical phenomena.

Participants of the 20th SPHERIC World Conference are invited to submit their contributions to a Special Issue of Computational Particle Mechanics (Impact Factor: 3.4; CiteScore: 4.7) dedicated to the conference.
The submission window will be open from 1 March 2027 to 31 October 2027.
The Guest Editors of the Special Issue are Dr. Danilo Durante (Executive Guest Editor), Dr. Chun Hean Lee, and Prof. PengNan Sun.
Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work relevant to one of the topics covered by the Special Issue. All manuscripts will be evaluated based on their relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarly merit, and quality of presentation.
In accordance with the journal’s policy, submissions must not have been published previously, nor be under review by another journal or conference at any stage during the review process.
